Check a certificate of insurance

Your minimums (GL $1M / $2M, workers' comp; tap to change)

🔒 Your file is read once and deleted right away. We don't save it or what it says, and no account is created. Up to 5 free checks a day.

A guide, not legal or insurance advice. A certificate of insurance only summarizes coverage and can be out of date or wrong. Verify anything important with the insurer or agent named on the certificate before you rely on it.

What you get

A COI report anyone on the job can read

Who and what

The insured business, the agent who issued it, the certificate holder and every insurer listed, with NAIC numbers when they're shown.

Every policy, in plain words

General liability, auto, umbrella, workers' comp and anything else on the form, with the policy number, start and end dates and the limits that matter.

Dates flagged

Each policy says "expired", "expires in 12 days" or "current", so a lapsed certificate jumps out before work starts.

Your checklist

Set the limits you require (for example GL $1M per occurrence and $2M aggregate) and see what passes, what's short and what the certificate doesn't show.

FAQ

About the free checker

Is the COI checker really free?

Yes. You can check up to 5 certificates a day without an account. To track every certificate automatically, with reminders before anything expires, start a LapseHawk free trial.

What happens to the file I upload?

It is read once to make your report and deleted right away. We don't save the file or what it says, and we don't create an account. We only count how many checks run.

Which certificates can it read?

ACORD 25 certificates of liability insurance and most other COI layouts, as a PDF or a clear photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC), up to 10 MB.

Can I rely on the report?

Use it as a guide, not legal or insurance advice. A certificate is only a summary of coverage; confirm anything important with the insurer or agent named on it, and ask for the endorsements if you need additional insured or waiver of subrogation.

Track all your COIs automatically

LapseHawk reads every certificate your vendors send, files it under the right company and warns you before coverage lapses. See also COI tracking software, construction software and property management software.
